Roofers quote template
Roofing quotes carry big numbers, so they win on evidence: photos of the actual problem, the roof area in square metres, and a clear split between repairs, restoration and full re-roof. Clients approve what they can see.
What a roofer quote should include
- Roof area in m², pitch and access notes
- Which job it is — repair, restoration (clean/repoint/coat), or full re-roof — stated in plain words
- Material named (Colorbond colour and profile, or tile type), sarking and insulation where relevant
- Guttering, downpipes and valley irons as separate lines
- Safety equipment — edge protection, scaffold or harness setup — as a visible line
- Waste removal for the old roofing
- Your ABN, licence/registration details, GST treatment, and quote validity
Sample line items

| Gutter replacement — supply + install | per metre | $30–$55 |
| Broken tile replacement (plus minimum charge) | per tile | $15–$40 |
| Edge protection / scaffold | per job | $800–$2,500 |

Quoting tips from the field
- Attach roof photos (drone shots are ideal) to the quote — rust, cracked pointing and lifted sheets are easier to approve when the client sees them.
- Say exactly what a restoration includes: high-pressure clean, rebed/repoint, primer, two coats. 'Roof restoration' alone means ten different things to ten clients.
- Add a weather clause — roofing schedules move with rain, and a written clause resets expectations before the first delay.
- State your licence or registration where your state requires it — on big re-roofs it's often the legal line between you and an uninsured operator.
Common questions
Do roofers charge GST on quotes?
If you're registered for GST, show the ex-GST amount, the 10% GST, and the total separately — clients trust a quote they can follow. Once the job is done, the invoice for anything over $82.50 (incl. GST) must be a proper tax invoice showing your ABN.
How should roofers handle deposits on big jobs?
Stage the payments: materials on order, balance on completion is common for re-roofs. Check your state's rules on deposits for domestic building work — Victoria, for example, caps them at 10% for work over $5,000. Put the stages on the quote itself.
What makes clients knock back roofing quotes?
Vague scope and no evidence. A quote that says 'fix roof — $4,500' loses to one with photos, the m², named materials and the safety setup itemised — even at a higher price, because it reads as the safer pair of hands.
