Plasterers quote template
Plastering quotes hinge on two words: finish level. A Level 4 finish (standard, paint-ready under most light) and a Level 5 finish (critical light, gloss paints) are different jobs at different prices — write the level on every quote.
What a plasterer quote should include
- Area in m² (new work) or patch count/size (repairs)
- The finish level in writing — Level 4 standard or Level 5 for critical light
- Cornice profile named (or 'standard cove'), per linear metre
- Whether painting is included — usually not; say so explicitly
- Dust control and cleanup, and protection of floors and furniture
- Water damage: source fixed first, and drying time allowed before patching
- Your ABN, GST treatment, and quote validity period

Quoting tips from the field
- Write 'painting not included — surfaces left paint-ready' on every quote. It's the single most disputed assumption in plastering.
- For water damage, quote the patch only after the leak is fixed and the area has dried — and say that on the quote so the client doesn't book you for next Tuesday.
- Count patches with the client at the quote visit and write the count down. A 'patch the hallway' quote becomes four patches on the day; a counted quote doesn't.
- State drying times between coats in your schedule. Clients plan painters and furniture around your dates — one line about curing saves the angry calls.
Common questions
Do plasterers charge GST on quotes?
If you're registered for GST, show the ex-GST amount, the 10% GST, and the total separately — clients trust a quote they can follow. Once the job is done, the invoice for anything over $82.50 (incl. GST) must be a proper tax invoice showing your ABN.
Is painting included in a plastering quote?
Usually not — plasterers leave surfaces sanded and paint-ready, and painting is a separate trade. Because clients so often assume it is, the safest plastering quotes say in plain words that painting is excluded.
How are small plaster repairs usually priced?
Per patch with a minimum charge — driving across town for one hole costs the same as for five. Grouping several repairs into one visit at a minimum-plus rate is standard practice and easy for clients to accept when it's written down.
