Landscapers quote template
Landscaping quotes need to separate three things clients confuse: materials (turf, soil, plants, pavers), machinery and removal (hire, tip fees), and labour. A client who can see those three buckets understands where the money goes — and stops comparing your quote to a mate's guess.
What a landscaper quote should include
- Materials itemised (turf, soil, mulch, plants, pavers) with quantities
- Machinery and equipment hire as its own line
- Green waste and spoil removal (per load or per tip run)
- Labour — per m² for measured work, hourly for open-ended work
- Irrigation or drainage notes where relevant, priced separately
- Seasonal timing — e.g. turf laid in summer needs watering commitment from the client
- Your ABN, GST treatment, and quote validity period
Sample line items
| Line item | Unit | Typical range* |
|---|---|---|
| Turf — supply + lay (incl. soil prep) | per m² | $25–$45 |
| Garden bed makeover — plants, soil, mulch | per m² | $60–$120 |
| Hedging / pruning | per hour | $60–$90 |
| Green waste removal | per load | $80–$150 |
| Paving — supply + lay | per m² | $90–$160 |

Quoting tips from the field
- Photograph the site and attach it. Levels, access, and existing vegetation all change the price — photos prove what you quoted against.
- Price waste removal explicitly. It's the line clients least expect, and the one that hurts most when it's missing.
- For turf, write the watering commitment into the quote: new turf in a Melbourne summer dies without it, and you don't want the blame.
- Allow for wet-weather rescheduling on earthworks — one sentence on the quote saves an argument every winter.
Common questions
Do landscapers charge GST on quotes?
If you're registered for GST, show the ex-GST amount, the 10% GST, and the total separately — clients trust a quote they can follow. Once the job is done, the invoice for anything over $82.50 (incl. GST) must be a proper tax invoice showing your ABN.
Should landscaping quotes be per m² or per job?
Per m² for measurable surfaces (turf, paving, decking-adjacent work) because clients can adjust the area to fit their budget. Per job or per hour for cleanups and pruning where the scope is time, not area.
What catches landscapers out on quotes?
Access and waste. A backyard only reachable by wheelbarrow through a side gate takes twice the labour of one with vehicle access, and three tip runs of soil add real money. Both belong as visible lines on the quote.
