Concreting quotes are per square metre by finish — plain, coloured, exposed aggregate — but the two lines clients never expect are excavation/base prep and the concrete pump. Put both on the quote as visible lines and the total stops surprising anyone.
What a concreter quote should include
- Area in m² and thickness (75 mm paths vs 100 mm+ driveways)
- Finish named — broom, coloured, exposed aggregate, stamped
- Excavation, base material and compaction as their own line
- Steel mesh / reinforcement included
- Concrete pump hire where access needs it
- Control joints / saw cuts and sealing or curing notes
- Your ABN, GST treatment, and quote validity period

Quoting tips from the field
- Quote the pump as its own line with a note on why — when clients understand a tight backyard needs one, they stop treating it as padding.
- Add a rain clause. Fresh concrete and a downpour don't mix; a written weather clause resets the schedule without a dispute.
- For driveways, note the council crossover permit — who arranges it and who pays. It's a small line that prevents a big delay.
- Write the aftercare on the quote: keep vehicles off for 7 days, seal after 28. Clients who know the rules don't blame you for early damage.
Common questions
Do concreters charge GST on quotes?
If you're registered for GST, show the ex-GST amount, the 10% GST, and the total separately — clients trust a quote they can follow. Once the job is done, the invoice for anything over $82.50 (incl. GST) must be a proper tax invoice showing your ABN.
Do driveways need council approval?
The driveway on private land usually doesn't, but the crossover (the bit over the footpath) almost always needs a council permit, and councils have their own specs. State on the quote who organises the permit and what it costs — it's the most common cause of delayed driveway jobs.
Why do concreting quotes vary so much for the same area?
Access, base prep and finish. Two 40 m² driveways can be $2,000 apart if one needs excavation through rock and a pump while the other is flat with truck access. Itemising those three things makes your number explain itself.
